In my distant past as a system administrator for the Federal Public Defender’s Office, in Los Angeles, I could (and sometimes did) boast of my five-nines of network and server uptime history. Always, however, I knew that most of where that came from was the luck of the draw.
There will be periods of stability in any endeavor, and then there will be the opposite. There will be times of no earthquakes, and then times of many. History is a loose guide suggesting, but not strongly predicting, things to come. Don’t let airline executives fool you into believing their bullshit about the safety record of the airline industry, because it’s, well, meaningless bullshit!
